About this ride

This is the classic short ride from Palma into the Tramuntana: up to Valldemossa and back down through Esporles. It starts and finishes at La Molienda Arxiduc, a short walk north of Plaça d’Espanya.

The road to Valldemossa climbs for about 17 km, but most of it is a gentle drag out of the city. The real climbing comes in the last five kilometres, at around 5 %, up to the village at about 400 m.

Valldemossa has three specialty coffee shops within a few minutes’ walk of each other, Roseta, Barbaflorida and Cocou, so it is the obvious place to stop.

From Valldemossa the route climbs a little further, to about 500 m, before a long descent through Esporles and back across the plain to Palma: 43 km and about 590 m of climbing in all. Leaving and entering Palma means some city traffic, which is lighter early in the morning.
